Prayer Guide

Journey Church exists to reach people who are disconnected from God and lead them to become fully devoted followers of Christ.

listening to God

One of the greatest gifts you have received as a follower of Jesus is the Holy Spirit. This week we will look at His role in our lives and how He empowers us to pray powerful and effective prayers.

When you put a seal on something you are declaring your ownership of it. Scripture teaches us that Jesus purchased us as His own and that the Father has put a seal on us through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit marks us as children of God.

“And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.” Ephesians 1:13

“See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1

“The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God…” Romans 8:16

Begin this week by thanking our Father that you are a child of His. Thank Him for the sacrifice of Jesus and for the gift of the Holy Spirit.

At times it may seem impossible to live for Christ or to accomplish the tasks He has called you too. In your times of doubt, remember that God has provided you with the power you need to accomplish His will and purpose.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

If you are a believer and have surrendered your life to Jesus the Holy Spirit already lives within you. As you surrender more of your life to Him you will begin to experience more of His power and peace. Spend some time asking God to work in and through you with Holy Spirit power.

Sometimes we don’t know what to pray for or how to pray for it. At times we don’t even know what God wants us praying for. When you don’t know what to pray ask the Holy Spirit to intercede for you.

“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:26‬

Spend some time today specifically praying for others. When you don’t know what to pray, ask God to give you the words. If the words don’t come, be still and rest in the confidence that the Holy Spirit is interceding for you.

As we live and grow as believers the Holy Spirit will begin to make changes in our thoughts, words, and actions. The Bible actually tells the types of changes He will make in our life.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

Spend some time throughout the day reflecting on the previous verse. Are these things evident in your life? Is God speaking to you about any one area? What changes do you need to make because of what He is saying today?

One of the greatest needs in the church today is to see the power of the Holy Spirit at work. As He works He will draw men and women to himself.

“For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up.”  John 6:44

“Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:3‬

Ask God to draw people to himself through the work of the Holy Spirit so that they can proclaim Jesus is Lord!

God has given us new life through Jesus, but we still battle with sin in our lives. The Holy Spirit will convict us and show us areas in our lives that need to be brought back in line with God’s will.

But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.” John 14:26

Ask God to reveal any areas of your life that do not line up with His will. Confess them and turn away from them.

21 Days

Fasting should be challenging but it’s important to know your body and your limitations. For more information on fasting check out the guide here.
