‘Be a Difference Maker – Week 3’ – 1.19.2025

14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.” Matthew 5:14-15 NLT

Some common traits of difference makers:

  • Difference makers are driven by a deep sense of purpose.
  • Difference makers instinctively know how to get things done.
  • Difference makers possess exceptional empathy and compassion
  • Difference makers are not content with simply talking about change; they take action.
  • Difference makers understand the power of collaboration.

14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 NLT

GOD IS LOOKING FOR A PERSON THAT WILL PRAY.

Psalm 86 …David asks God to hear his prayer, have mercy on him, and save him from his enemies. David asks God to teach him his way and give him an undivided heart.

Psalm 25 …David asks God to forgive all his sins and remember his mercy.

Psalm 27…David asks God to allow him to dwell in his house for the rest of his life.

Psalm 51 …David writes a psalm of repentance after committing adultery and murder.

Psalm 17 …David asks God to hear his prayer and attend to his cry.

Psalm 18…David asks God to deliver him from his enemies and praises God as his rock, fortress, and deliverer.

Prayer is at the center of every great evangelistic movement, and every movement is made up of everyday people.

GOD IS LOOKING FOR A PERSON THAT IS COMMITTED TO SERVE.

32 “Don’t worry about this Philistine,” David told Saul. “I’ll go fight him!”

33 “Don’t be ridiculous!” Saul replied. “There’s no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You’re only a boy, and he’s been a man of war since his youth.” 34 But David persisted. “I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,” he said. “When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, 35 I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death. 36 I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God! 37 The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!”  1 Samuel 17:32-37b NLT

  • Difference Makers choose to be obedient even when it doesn’t make sense.
  • Difference Makers recognize that heaven and hell are realities and people are truly going there every day.

GOD IS LOOKING FOR A PERSON THAT WANTS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

35 Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. 38 So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”  Matthew 9:35-38 NLT

GOD USES ORDINARY PEOPLE TO DO EXTRAORDINARY THINGS.

Next Steps for me today…
