‘Heroes of Faith – Week 6’ – 8.16.2026

Heroes of faith aren’t people with extraordinary abilities; they’re ordinary people who trust in the one true extraordinary God.

A HERO OF FAITH OBEYS GOD EVEN WHEN HE DOESN’T HAVE ALL THE DETAILS

1 The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. Genesis 12:1-4 NLT

Many of us want God to show us the entire plan before we take the first step.

  • God’s answer is simply: “Trust Me and take the next step.”
  • Faith isn’t having all the answers.
  • Faith is obeying what God has already made clear.

A HERO OF FAITH ISN’T PERFECT

10 At that time a severe famine struck the land of Canaan, forcing Abram to go down to Egypt, where he lived as a foreigner. 11 As he was approaching the border of Egypt, Abram said to his wife, Sarai, “Look, you are a very beautiful woman. 12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife. Let’s kill him; then we can have her!’ 13 So please tell them you are my sister. Then they will spare my life and treat me well because of their interest in you.”  Genesis 12:10-13 NLT

  • Abraham lied about Sarah being his wife.
  • Faith over fear.
  • A moment of failure doesn’t have to become a lifetime of unfaithfulness.

Heroes of faith aren’t people who never stumble. They’re people who keep getting back up and returning to God.

Proverbs 24:16  “For the righteous falls seven times and rises again.”

A HERO OF FAITH BELIEVES GOD’S PROMISES EVEN WHEN CIRCUMSTANCES SAY OTHERWISE

1 Some time later, the Lord spoke to Abram in a vision and said to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram, for I will protect you, and your reward will be great.”

But Abram replied, “O Sovereign Lord, what good are all your blessings when I don’t even have a son? Since you’ve given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth. You have given me no descendants of my own, so one of my servants will be my heir.”

Then the Lord said to him, “No, your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.” Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!” And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith. Genesis 15:1-6 NLT

  • Abraham wasn’t made righteous because he earned it.
  • He wasn’t made righteous because he lived a perfect life.
  • He was counted righteous through faith.
  • This points us directly toward the Gospel.

Biblical faith is believing that God can do everything He has promised.

A HERO OF FAITH TRUSTS GOD WITH WHAT MATTERS MOST

1 Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called.

“Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.” “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.” Genesis 22:1-2 NLT

  • Do you trust God with what you love most?
  • Your children, your career, your money, your time?

Maybe the greatest question isn’t: “Do you believe in God?”

The greater question is: “Do you trust God enough to obey Him?”

  • Will I obey God when I don’t know all the details?
  • Will I believe God when circumstances seem impossible?
  • Will I keep trusting God even after I’ve failed?
  • Will I trust God with what matters most?
