‘Battle Ready – Putting On Christ’ – 1.21.2024

January 21, 2024

“PUTTING ON CHRIST”

Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on  the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put  on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take  up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts  of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the  Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:14-17 ESV

This armor is our grace-given ability to fulfill God’s will on earth. What does it mean to “PUT ON” the whole armor of God? It means to PUT ON CHRIST

  • But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the  flesh, to gratify its desires. Romans 13:14 ESV

It means:

  • I no longer live FOR MYSELF:

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who  live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in  the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me  and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 ESV

  • I no longer fulfill the desires of MY FLESH, but live according  to the SPIRIT.

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the  desires of the flesh (the sinful nature).”

Galatians 5:16 ESV

  • I put on the NEW NATURE

○ (to) Put off your old self, which belongs to your former  manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,

and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put  on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true  righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24 ESV

(and) As shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by  the gospel (good news) of peace. Ephesians 6:15 ESV ● Be a Bearer of Peace – (Shalom: wholeness, completeness,  health, safety, harmony, and prosperity).

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called  sons of God.” Matthew 5:9 ESV

  • Always Be Prepared – Stay ready

Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season;  reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and  teaching. For the time is coming when people will not

endure sound teaching. 2 Timothy 4:2-3a ESV

In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery  arrows of the devil. Ephesians 6:16 NLT

  • Faith shows the REALITY of what we hope for; IT is the  EVIDENCE of things we cannot see. Hebrews 11:1 NLT Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his  faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was  FULLY CONVINCED that God is able to do whatever he  promises. Romans 4:20-21 NLT

Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit,  which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:17 NLT

  • Our COMPLETE Salvation is JESUS (Yeshuah – H3444) But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in  your SALVATION. Psalm 13:5 ESV

God has put all things under Christ’s power and has  made Him to be the HEAD leader over all things of the

church. Ephesians1:22 NLT

  • Jesus IS the WORD OF GOD

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with  God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning

with God. John 1:1-2 ESV

Next Steps:

  • Realize that it is MY responsibility to “PUT ON” the Armor. ● Make Jesus LORD over ALL my life.
