THROUGH COMMUNITY, RELATIONSHIP AND DISCIPLESHIP
The greatest difference we can make is through discipleship.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19 ESV
Through Discipleship and Relationship:
- We cause Jesus to become the focus of life.
- We introduce transformation with kingdom influence.
- We induce worldwide change.
We Must Answer The Call To Follow.
19 And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19 ESV
We Must Answer The Call To Always Be On Mission.
14 And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach. Mark 3:14 ESV
1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. Luke 10:1 ESV
We Must Answer The Call to Common Unity (Community).
21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. John 17:21 ESV
35 “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35 ESV
Our unity and love in Christ enriches our personal lives. But it also impacts the world around us. How?
- It shows the world that the love of Jesus transcends all differences – Galatians 3:28
- It leverages greater influence and attraction – Acts 2:41
- It demonstrates a model of true peace – John 14:27
- It allows the world to imagine a truly fulfilled life, regardless of oppressive circumstances – John 16:33
- It points to them back to God’s goodness – 1 Peter 2:1-3
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 ESV
Jesus’ Model of Community and Discipleship
- Committed to growing together, while drawing others.
- Always be on mission together.
- Look outward, not inward.
- Expect and accommodate increase and multiplication.
- To actively engage the world where they are.
The Cost
24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24 ESV
42 …“Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” Luke 22:42 ESV
“Your obedience to God will rearrange your life in such a way that it will cost you. But we count it all joy. It’s worth it!” Ken Galyean, Call2Africa
