CAN YOU LOSE YOUR SALVATION?
16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. John 3:16-18 NLT
And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.” John 3:36 NLT
27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, 29 for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. 30 The Father and I are one.” John 10:27-30 NLT
EVERLASTING LIFE IS EVERLASTING
Salvation through Jesus Christ is God’s gift, not something we earn.
8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT
16 So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! 17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:16-17 NLT
THE AGE OLD DEBATE.
4 For it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were once enlightened – those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come – 6 and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance; by rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing him to the cross once again and holding him up to public shame. Hebrews 6:4-6 NLT
● The question is was the person truly saved?
● This passage in Hebrews focuses on repentance not salvation.
YOU CAN LOSE YOUR REWARDS.
13 But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. 14 If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. 15 But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames. 1 Corinthians 3:13-15 NLT
● We don’t work for our salvation, but we do work out our salvation.
● What do our works say about us?
● You miss the blessings of God.
● You miss the will of God.
● You miss the peace of God.
● You will have unanswered prayer
FIVE THINGS THAT GIVE YOU CONFIDENCE YOU ARE SAVED
1. You will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. 1 John 4:15
2. You will obey the commands of Christ.
Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:3
3. You will be miserable when sinning.
Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. 1 John 3:9
4. You will keep yourself from evil.
We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them. 1 John 5:18
5. You will love other Christians.
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. 1 John 5:1
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. Philippians 2:13 NLT
