1 Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from His love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. 3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. 5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Philippians 2:1-5 NLT
- You Choose Joy by remembering you belong to Christ.
“Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from
His love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit?”
When you belong to Christ:
- You are loved without conditions.
- You are accepted without having to perform.
- You are secure no matter what’s shaking around you.
- You Choose Joy by protecting unity.
“Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other,
loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.”
20 “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. 21 I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. 23 I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.” John 17:20-23 NLT
- You Choose Joy by walking in humility.
“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.”
- Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself—it’s thinking of yourself less often.
Humility shifts the focus:
- From my needs > to your needs.
- From my success > to our success.
- From my way > to God’s way.
The quickest way to lose joy is to make life all about you. The quickest way to gain joy is to serve someone else.
- You Choose Joy by following Jesus’ example.
“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.”
6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Philippians 2:6-8 NLT
…Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame… Hebrews 12:2b NLT
9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. Romans 10:9-10 NLT
