‘God of Miracles – Part 4’ – 8.18.2024

20 YEARS OF GOD BEING FAITHFUL!

14 You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. Psalm 77:14 NIV

Through divine actions, the God of wonders reveals His character, His purposes, and His power on earth.

WHAT IS A MIRACLE?

  • A miracle is an unusual manifestation of God’s power in which He intervenes in human affairs.

The Israelites Cross the Jordan

Joshua Chapter 3 NLT

1 When all the people had crossed the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, “Now choose twelve men, one from each tribe. Tell them, ‘Take twelve stones from the very place where the priests are standing in the middle of the Jordan. Carry them out and pile them up at the place where you will camp tonight.’” So Joshua called together the twelve men he had chosen—one from each of the tribes of Israel. He told them, “Go into the middle of the Jordan, in front of the Ark of the Lord your God. Each of you must pick up one stone and carry it out on your shoulder—twelve stones in all, one for each of the twelve tribes of Israel. We will use these stones to build a memorial. In the future your children will ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ Then you can tell them, ‘They remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant went across.’ These stones will stand as a memorial among the people of Israel forever.” So the men did as Joshua had commanded them. They took twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan River, one for each tribe, just as the Lord had told Joshua. They carried them to the place where they camped for the night and constructed the memorial there. Joshua also set up another pile of twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, at the place where the priests who carried the Ark of the Covenant were standing. And they are there to this day. 10 The priests who were carrying the Ark stood in the middle of the river until all of the Lord’s commands that Moses had given to Joshua were carried out. Meanwhile, the people hurried across the riverbed. 11 And when everyone was safely on the other side, the priests crossed over with the Ark of the Lord as the people watched. Joshua 4:1-11 NLT

WE DON’T LIVE IN OUR PAST, WE LIVE IN THE MOMENT, AND WE LEAN TOWARD THE FUTURE.

WE DON’T LIVE IN OUR PAST.

  • We do learn from it.
  • We reflect on it or remember where we’ve come from.
  • We use it to share God’s story of redemption.

WE LIVE IN THE MOMENT

  • We make the most of every opportunity.
  • We walk in freedom now, no longer in bondage.
  • We have hope.

WE LEAN TOWARD THE FUTURE.

  • Seeking God’s will.
  • Taking steps of faith.
  • Trusting God to use us.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. God has now revealed to us his mysterious will regarding Christ—which is to fulfill his own good plan. 10 And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. 11 Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan. 12 God’s purpose was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God. 13 And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. 14 The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.  Ephesians 1:3-14 NLT

  • All praise to God for what Jesus has done!
  • Those of us in Christ have been sealed by God’s Holy Spirit.
  • God is a sending God.
  • We focus almost exclusively on the idea of sending, rather than being sent.
