DO WE REALLY BELIEVE?
“Do we believe that HE > I?”
Pew Research – 65% of American Adults identified as Christian. This is down 12% over the last decade. Only 62% of American Adults even attend a religious service once or twice a month.
How many of us actually worship more than 2 times a month?
“The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say…?” Genesis 3:1 NLT
38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” 41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42 NLT
Why was Martha DISTRACTED?
- She let cleanliness and cooking be her “god”.
- She allowed Satan to distract her.
Why was Mary FOCUSED?
- According to the text, Mary had found the one thing.
- Time with Jesus brings peace to us.
When we have an experience with Jesus, just like this experience Martha had, it changes our FOCUS and PRIORITIES.
BUT THIS DOESN’T STOP SATAN FROM CONTINUING TO BRING DISTRACTION.
14 So he told him plainly, “Lazarus was dead. 15 And for your sakes, I’m glad I wasn’t there, for now you will really believe. Come, let’s go see him.” 16 Thomas, nicknamed the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s go, too—and die with Jesus.” John 11:14-16 NLT
21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask.”
27 “Yes, Lord,” she told him. “I have always believed you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who has come into the world from God.” John 11:21-22, 27 NLT
Confession leads to Salvation.
For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. Romans 10:10 NLT
How can we live a life that reflects and confesses HE>I?
Next Steps:
- Ask Jesus to come into your “house” and be saved.
Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. John 11:25 NLT
- Keep your eyes, mind, heart focused on Jesus.
- Continue to move toward Completeness in Jesus.
