“I Want To Know Christ!” – 11.15.2020

 Want To Know Christ!

REJOICE!

Whatever happens, my dear brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord… Philippians 3:1 NLT

NO CONFIDENCE IN THE FLESH.

2 Watch out for those dogs, those people who do evil, those mutilators who say you must be circumcised to be saved. 3 For we who worship by the Spirit of God are the ones who are truly circumcised. We rely on what Christ Jesus has done for us. We put no confidence in human effort, 4 though I could have confidence in my own effort if anyone could. Indeed, if others have reason for confidence in their own efforts, I have even more!  5 I was circumcised when I was eight days old. I am a pure-blooded citizen of Israel and a member of the tribe of Benjamin—a real Hebrew if there ever was one! I was a member of the Pharisees, who demand the strictest obedience to the Jewish law. 6 I was so zealous that I harshly persecuted the church. And as for righteousness, I obeyed the law without fault. Philippians 3:2-6 NLT

  • Our confidence can’t be in our pedigree.
  • Our confidence can’t be in our knowledge.
  • Our confidence can’t be in ourselves.

OUR CONFIDENCE MUST BE IN CHRIST ALONE!

7 I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. 8 Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ 9 and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. Philippians 3:7-9 NLT

  • I have discarded everything.

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20 NIV

  • God’s way is Jesus!
  • God’s way is by faith!

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Hebrews 11:6 NLT

8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT

I WANT TO KNOW CHRIST!

How do you get to know Jesus?

  • Realize Jesus is a real man you can know.
  • Let Jesus reveal himself through scripture.

37b You have never heard his voice or seen him face to face, 38 and you do not have his message in your hearts, because you do not believe me—the one he sent to you. 39 “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! 40 Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.”  John 5:37b-40 NLT

  • Spend time with Jesus in prayer as you read the Bible.
  • Ask people who know Him well what He’s like.

10 I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, 11 so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!   Philippians 3:10-11 NLT

  • The mighty power of Christ
  • The suffering of Christ
  • The resurrection from the dead

Next steps for me today…

  • To accept Jesus Christ as my Savior.
  • To focus on knowing Jesus personally.
  • To daily read God’s Word about Jesus.
