JESUS CAME TO SET US FREE!
16 When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures.17 The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, 19 and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” Luke 4:16-19 NLT
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free… Galatians 5:1a NIV
JESUS CAME TO SET US FREE FROM THE CONTROL OF SIN.
20 You have died with Christ, and he has set you free from the spiritual powers of this world. So why do you keep on following the rules of the world…Colossians 2:20 NLT
16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. Galatians 5:16 NLT
- Living our life for Christ is not about sin management, but about becoming all that God redeemed us to be.
17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
JESUS CAME TO SET US FREE FROM THE SHAME OF GUILT.
7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. 8 He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. Ephesians 1:7-8 NLT
- The enemy works to keep us in bondage.
- Jesus went to the cross to set us free.
12 He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. Psalm 103:12 NLT
JESUS CAME TO SET US FREE FROM THE PAIN OF RESENTMENT.
34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. 35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. John 8:34-36 NLT
- When we hurt others, we feel guilty. When people hurt us, we feel resentful.
- Bitterness is a poison to the soul.
JESUS CAME TO SET US FREE FROM THE LIES OF THE ENEMY.
31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 NLT
6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. 7 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. Romans 6:6-7 NLT
13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:13-17 NLT
17 For the Lord is Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17 NLT
JESUS CAME TO SET US FREE FROM THE FEAR OF DEATH.
14 Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. 15 Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying. Hebrews 2:14-15 NLT
- The Bible says, “It’s appointed unto man once to die.”
- God doesn’t want you to fear death, He wants you to know Him.
16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16 NLT
