DARE TO PRAY BIG
When God’s people pray bold, faith-filled prayers for His glory, He shows up in undeniable power.
BIG PRAYERS BEGIN WITH AN UNWAVERING FAITH
Elijah calls the people out:
“How long will you waver between two opinions?” (v. 21)
- Big prayers don’t come from divided hearts. They come from people who have decided.
- Elijah didn’t pray big because the odds were good—he prayed big because God is faithful.
- We can’t pray bold prayers or take bold steps while having cautious faith.
- God isn’t looking for perfect people—He’s looking for fully surrendered ones.
- Big prayers require courage.
BIG PRAYERS ARE ROOTED IN GOD’S GLORY
- Big noise doesn’t equal big power.
- The prophets of Baal made a lot of noise.
- The size of your prayer isn’t measured by emotion—it’s measured by alignment.
Elijah prays a simple, confident prayer:
36b …“O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, prove today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant. Prove that I have done all this at your command. 37 O Lord, answer me! Answer me so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God and that you have brought them back to yourself.” 1 Kings 18:36b-37 NLT
- He prays for God’s glory and the peoples’ hearts.
- Some prayers go unanswered because they’re centered on us, not God.
- When your greatest desire is God’s glory, heaven listens.
BIG PRAYERS TRUST GOD FOR THE IMPOSSIBLE
33b …Then he said, “Fill four large jars with water, and pour the water over the offering and the wood.” 34 After they had done this, he said, “Do the same thing again!” And when they were finished, he said, “Now do it a third time!” So they did as he said, 35 and the water ran around the altar and even filled the trench. I Kings 18:33b-35 NLT
- Elijah wanted there to be no doubt when God moved.
- The fire falls—consuming the sacrifice, the stones, the water, and even the dust.
- When God answers big prayers, He leaves no room for confusion.
- If God is truly God, then nothing is too hard.
- Sometimes God waits until the situation seems impossible—so only He gets the credit.
- Faith doesn’t avoid impossible situations—it invites God into them.
39 And when all the people saw it, they fell face down on the ground and cried out, “The Lord—he is God! Yes, the Lord is God!” 1 Kings 18:39 NLT
- That’s what big prayers are meant to do—they turn our hearts back to God.
PRAY THE KIND OF PRAYERS THAT REQUIRE GOD TO SHOW UP
Because when God answers big prayers:
Where have I been praying small because I’m afraid to be disappointed?
What impossible situation needs a bold, faith-filled prayer right now?
