‘Songs of Summer – The Lord is My Shepherd’ – 6.23.2024

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green  pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides  me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the  darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my  enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness  and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of  the Lord forever. Psalm 23:1-6 NIV

JESUS IS THE GOOD SHEPHERD

11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the  sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So, when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then  the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a  hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd; I know  my sheep and my sheep know me—15 just as the Father knows me and I know  the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.” John 10:11-15 NIV

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green  pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides  me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Psalm 23:1-3 NIV Me + Jesus is enough!

  • The good shepherd feeds the sheep, leads the sheep, protects the  sheep, loves the sheep, and even dies for the sheep.
  • God’s name is on the line.

4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are  with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5a You prepare a table before  me in the presence of my enemies. Psalm 23:4-5a NIV

THE LIES WE ARE TOLD BY THE ENEMY:

  • I’m alone
  • I’m unlovable
  • I’m worthless
  • I’m helpless

THE ENEMY WILL CONDEMN YOU, BUT GOD WILL CONVICT YOU. Condemnation comes from a posture of hate

  • Conviction come from a posture of love
  • God wants to save us and restore us.

WHAT THE GOOD SHEPHERD TELLS US:

  • He loves me.
  • I don’t need to be afraid
  • I’m not alone, He is with me!

“God, our good shepherd, brings us through the valley of the shadow of  death. Not to the valley, but through the valley. Our security is not  based on what happens to us or what God gives us, but on His presence  with us. When the enemy tries to fill your heart with fear, remember  who you’re with. Put your eyes on the Good Shepherd instead.”  – Louie Giglio

WE HAVE A CHOICE

  • As a follower of Jesus, you can consciously choose your thoughts  and replace ungodly lies with scriptural truths.
  • We have to focus on what we believe, not what we feel.

5b You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and  love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of  the Lord forever. Psalm 23:5b-6 NIV

MY TASK IS TO FOCUS ON THE GOOD SHEPHERD

Next Steps for me today…

  • Focus on Jesus.
