‘Truth Matters – Week 5’ – 4.13.2025

IF THE TRUTH MATTERS, THEN ACT LIKE IT.

  • We live in a world where truth is often treated like an option.
  • If truth really matters, then it must shape how we lead, how we live, and how we love.

31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 NLT

18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  Matthew 28:18-20 NLT

ACTING LIKE IT MATTERS…

BE THE DISCIPLER: YOUR FAMILY IS YOUR FIRST MINISTRY

  • You are the primary disciple-maker in your home. Not the church. Not the youth group.
  • “If you don’t disciple your children, someone else will.”
  • Discipleship is not a Sunday-only activity, it’s the atmosphere of your home.
  • Discipleship is not a church program. It’s a lifestyle and a step of obedience to Jesus.
  • Are you actively discipling your family—or outsourcing it?

FRUIT TREES PRODUCE WHAT THEY’RE MEANT TO, WHEN HEALTHY.

22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!  Galatians 5:22–23 NLT

  • Jesus said in Matthew 7 that you’ll know a tree by its fruit.
  • What is being produced in your home?
  • Is it the fruit of the Spirit
  • Or is it the fruit of stress, distraction, and anger?

TRUTH MATTERS BUT HOW YOU SAY IT MATTERS.

14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. 15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. Ephesians 4:14-15 NLT

  • Speak the truth—but do it in love.
  • Don’t use truth like a hammer. Use it like a guide.

“Truth without love is brutality, and love without truth is hypocrisy.”

― Warren Wiersbe

Communion

The Bible says that we are to examine ourselves:

28 That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup. 1 Corinthians 11:28 NLT

Confess My Sins

9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.  1 John 1:9 NLT

We’re announcing the message of the Cross

“…25b Do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink it.” 26 For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again. 1 Corinthians 11:25b-26 NLT
