Stages- “What A Child Needs” 07.25.21

What a Child Needs

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 ESV

1. A good leader

a) A good follower makes a better leader

b) The person must grow themselves

…looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2 ESV

c) Not a good manager

2. To know that God is in control

a) It’s God’s plan, not ours

You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:15 NLT

b) What God says about them

3. The skills for discernment

a) Truth applied is wisdom

b) Moments, not minutes

c) Skills that last

10 My child, listen to me and do as I say, and you will have a long, good life. 11 I will teach you wisdom’s ways and lead you in straight paths. 12 When you walk, you won’t be held back; when you run, you won’t stumble. 13 Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life. Proverbs 4:10-13 NLT

Next Steps:

We should commit to seeing every day as a new day to grow closer to God.

We should commit to seeing everyone around us as God sees them, including our children. Made for a purpose, on purpose, but not my purpose.

We should commit to walking with Jesus as a child of God and living out of that relationship to others.
