‘Why Doesn’t God Heal Everyone’ – 4.30.2023

WHY DOESN’T GOD HEAL EVERYONE

You can ask for anything in my name and I will do it…  John 14:13 NLT

14 Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well…  James 5:14-15 NLT

Beatitudes: Describe the ideal heart condition of a citizen of God’s kingdom.

Why doesn’t God heal everyone the way we want them healed?

  • We reap what we sow. God will forgive but may not remove the consequences.
  • It’s not always God’s Will to heal people physically.

“Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”  Luke 22:42 NLT

  • It may be part of God’s plan for His glory and sovereign purpose.

“It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.”  John 9:3 NLT

  • God is more interested in our character than our comfort.

7…So, to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud. 8 Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. 9 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. 10 That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.  2 Corinthians 12:7-10 NLT

God may be waiting for us to move…

  • In Faith

27 After Jesus left the girl’s home, two blind men followed along behind him, shouting, “Son of David, have mercy on us! 28 “They went right into the house where he was staying, and Jesus asked them, “Do you believe I can make you see?” “Yes, Lord,” they told him, “we do.” 29 Then he touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith, it will happen.” 30 Then their eyes were opened, and they could see!…  Matthew 9:27-30 NLT

22 The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us if you can. 23 What do you mean, ‘If I can’? Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” 24 The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”  Mark 9:22-24 NLT

And so, he did only a few miracles there because of their unbelief.

Matthew 13:58 NLT

  • In Obedience

6 Then he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes. 7 He told him, “Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam” (Siloam means “sent”). So, the man went and washed and came back seeing! John 9:6-7 NLT

12 As he entered a village there, ten men with leprosy stood at a distance, 13 crying out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” 14 He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy. Luke 17:12-14 NLT

  • In Community

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16 NLT

42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. 43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved. Acts 2:42-47 NLT

Celebrate Recovery is a structured approach to applying God’s word in your life to experience healing from any hurt, hang up or habit, and to live out the Beatitudes through a community of support and accountability.

7 That is why the Holy Spirit says, 8 “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled, when they tested me in the wilderness. Hebrews 3:7-8 NLT

You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. Hebrews 3:13 NLT
