“How To Pray For Your Family” – 2.13.2022

OUR FAMILY IS WORTH FIGHTING FOR.

13 So I placed armed guards behind the lowest parts of the wall in the exposed areas. I stationed the people to stand guard by families, armed with swords, spears, and bows. 14 Then as I looked over the situation, I called together the nobles and the rest of the people and said to them, “Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord, who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes!”

20 ”When you hear the blast of the trumpet, rush to wherever it is sounding. Then our God will fight for us!”    Nehemiah 4:13-14, 20 NLT

  • When we fight for our families, God fights for us.
  • Praying for our family is the best way to battle for our family.

PRAY WITH A PURE HEART FOR YOUR FAMILY.

18 If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.
19 But God did listen!  He paid attention to my prayer. 20 Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.   Psalm 66:18-20 NLT

PRAY FOR GOD’S WILL FOR YOUR FAMILY TO PREVAIL, NOT OUR PLANS.

11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. 12 In those days when you pray, I will listen. 13 If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.”   Jeremiah 29:11-13 NLT

  • When we pray seeking God’s will, we are setting aside what we want and desire, and we’re asking for what he desires instead.

PRAY WITH CONFIDENCE AND THANKSGIVING.

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.   Philippians 4:4-7 NIV

PRAY CONTINUALLY FOR YOUR FAMILY.

  • No amount of time you spend in God’s presence is ever wasted.

17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 NLT

  • Pray scripture over your family, claiming God’s promises.

10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 NLT

Paul’s Prayer for the Ephesians

14 When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father,15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. 16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21 Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.  Ephesians 3:14-21 NLT

  • Pray that your family is filled with the Spirit.
  • Pray that your family will know how much God loves them.

MAKE A DECLARATION OVER YOUR FAMILY.

14 “So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone. 15 But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:14-15 NLT
